The York Colleges Guild is a group of bell ringers, composed mostly of students at the University of York or York St John University College.

What do we do?

There are two main sections to YCG. The tower bell section focuses on ringing the 100+ kg tower bells installed around the city. All of the installations have at least 6 bells, which allows for teams of ringers to work together to manipulate the order in which the bells are rung to create musical patterns. The handbell section focuses on ringing tunes on the much smaller handbells. The society owns a set of 16 handbells (not including the extra notes), allowing tunes such as Jurassic Park to be played.

Take a look around our website. If you fancy coming and trying it around, send us an email at secretary@ycg.org.uk.

It doesn't matter if you have never touched, seen or even heard bells before. you don't need to be religious and don't need to be musical. Why not come along to one of our practices and see what it is all about?
